Summer 2017

Its that time of year when the end of the season approaches and we will be closing down for the summer holiday. Our last training night at the pool will be Tuesday 18th July 2017 and we return on Tuesday 12th September 2017.

Well, its been another busy season, our newly qualified instructors have been putting their new skills into excellent practice, and Im sure you will agree with me that the pool is looking so much more organised and eventful. I have also been very proud of them over the recent Lulworth Cove trip, where I was able to keep my distance and let them organise everyone and everything… A first in almost 25 years lol… I cannot thank them enough for all the hard effort they have put in, which Id like to remind you all is done all on a totally voluntary basis.

Lulworth this year was another excellent event. Two days of great diving, and breaking with tradition we tried some new things. Our normal stop off at Avon Heath Café, changed to an amazing home cooked fry-up, thanks to former Instructor Ann Whitfield and her husband Chris at their new farm in the New Forrest. The whole family has gone through the club over the years, even Sam the Dog learnt to swim as a puppy at Lulworth 14 years ago. Their youngest son, Mark is still teaching with us and Sam was very happy to entertain the kids by fetching his ball, even if he is now a little wobbly on his old legs. The farm was beautiful and huge and it was great catching up and reminiscing about previous Lulworth trips. A massive thanks to them for their hospitality. With excellent weather, perfect wind we were able to dive Stair Hole, going into the caves, through the tunnels as well as into open sea for a great dive. Sunday was just as good, with a change from Swanage due to an event, on the pier to the beautiful Kimmeridge Bay, where multiple exotic and home grown forms of sealife could be found. For once we even back on time, so a very successful weekend all round.

I hope you all have a wonderful summer break, and have some fantastic snorkel dives on your trips away if you are going anywhere. Its always nice to get a postcard so don’t forget us here at the club. I will be away on my holidays the first week you get back, for Poppy’s first holiday abroad, so I will see you all on my return. The gang will get you all started back into the swing of things.

See you all in September, happy bubbling

Summer 2013

An exciting year so far, with the trip to the dive show at London’s Excel Exhibition Hall, where many bargins were picked up by those who attended. The Open Water and Advanced Groups have just returned from their annual trip to Swanage in Dorset. It was an amazing weekend with brilliant conditions, crystal clear water and loads of sun! Kimmeridge bay was finally dived this year after the wash out last year. We used their snorkel trail to explore many different underwater ecosystems and found many crabs, large fish and special sea weeds. Swanage Pier on the Sunday was equally spectacular with some of the best diving conditions I’ve ever seen in the UK... All in all a fabulous weekend which I would love to repeat... Keep an eye on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/KEJSC) for photos and soon some videos of the trip! Special thanks must go to Jeff Jones (Gemma & Lauren’s dad) who volunteered to drive one of the minibuses after Mark C had to drop out last minute.

Over the summer the staff will be very busy. We are currently building a new club web site. This will have a private members area with login so that you can access the club calendar, important documents, photos and videos. As well as news about the club and a discussion area for suggestions... Over the next few weeks I will be emailing out invitations to join the private area. Please keep an eye out for an email from “Surrey Community Info” who are hosting the site for us. We then aim to go paperless very soon with all updates through the site or email. In the meantime, if you wish to look at the public area as it is developed please check out the holding site http://www.surreycommunity.info/kejsc/ until we transfer over the clubs web address. Any suggestions or corrections please let me know... Other staff members will also be putting the finer points to our Clubmark application, so hopefully on our return we will be done or close to obtaining this accreditation...!

We are still keen to bring new members into the club, so if you know anyone who may be interested please pass on our details. We will be running a few promotion events over the summer break, so I may be looking for volunteers to come and hand out leaflets etc... Ill keep you posted...
