Club Update 24/07/2020

Dear All,

On the eve of the reopening of swimming pools nationally, I thought I best touch base and update you all on the current situation.

The Government has authorised pools to reopen, however there are a number of very strict rules that will be imposed, including the recommendation that there be a minimum of 3 square metres of space around a swimmer. Something that will require the numbers in the pool being strictly limited.

How this effect clubs in the pools is at this time unknown…

I have made attempts to engage with the pool management but at this time had no response. I will continue to try to make contact.

There will be significant changes that will need to come into place should we be allowed to return. However when that will be I don’t know at this time.

Traditionally the club closes for the summer period due to the Pools Summer Program taking precedence and due to the fact that membership attendance drops during this time due to holidays etc… For that reason, I do not envisage us returning anytime before September, assuming we were following out normal seasons timing…

On the plus side this does give us more time to plan, and to see how things develop after the pools reopen. The downside being, I’m afraid we are going to have to wait a bit longer before we can enjoy our sport again….

BSAC have issued a number of advisory documents on how to return to the pool and diving activities, however none of them account for the difficulties faced in managing and controlling children in these environments…

My staff and I will do our best to ensure your and our safety during this difficult period, but we have to accept that there may be significant changes needed. Which could include alternate week group attendance, reduced membership, or reduced facilities… Until I have spoken with the pool, I don’t know yet what will occur. I will endeavour to keep you all up to date as soon as possible.

In the meantime, pool fees will remain on hold.

On a side note, some of you may have noticed a direct debit from BSAC for £20.50 come out this month. This is the yearly BSAC membership, which I cannot place on hold as it covers the yearly insurance as well as membership to BSAC our governing body. Not everyone will have it, as it depends on your re-join date, so if you haven’t had it taken yet, its note yet your renewal time.

Anyway, I hope you are all having a reasonable start to the summer despite the lockdown issues, and are all staying safe.

Ill be in touch as soon as I know more.
