Corona Virus and the Club

Dear All,

Whilst I realise none of you are overly concerned, as no one has contacted me with any worries yet, I felt it prudent to update you about the clubs postion on the current health issues gripping the world.

As it stands at the moment, we are closely monitoring the advice from the government and Public Health England.

At this time, there is no intention to close the club, unless specifically directed by these authorities, or if BSAC directs, or the pool is forced to close.

BSAC have offered information to divers and snorkllers here:

Currently, I have directed my staff to refrain from CPR training at this time, to reduce the chance of mucosal contact, in an effort to mitigate the spread of any infections. This is not to say that I am concerned about anything, as statistically you are still more likely to win the lottery than to have adverse effects of this illness. However it is a stop gap to help reduce any direct contact which could help pervey the issue.

We are also in the process of disinfecting all shared club equipment, however, as previously stated in a recent email, it is always better to have your own kit, so please consider this if you have concerns about using shared equipment.

I have spoken with the pool. They have informed me that the have upped the chemical content in the pool water, however this was not really a major concern, as the chlorine should destroy the virus anyway if used in the correct recommended amounts. I am imformed that the changing rooms are going to be cleaned to their usual high standard (Whatever that means…).

My advice therefore is to no be concerned at this time. The club will continue to provide the students their usual high standard of training until told otherwise.

In the meantime, can I reiterate the PHE advice. Wash your hands regularly, with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds. If you show any signs and symptoms of the illness or any other flu like symptoms, you should seek medial advice via 111 and self isolate for a minimum of 7 days.

IF anyone does contract the illness, please can you inform me, so that I can ensure the whole club and relevant parties are aware to ensure continued controls are suitable.

Should anyone have any concerns or has been affected by these issues, please feel free to contact me in confidence on 07956897216.

I hope that I have not gone too doom and gloom, and that you are all well. There are a number of events later in the year, such as the Thames Boat Run, the Lulworth Trip etc which will be reviewed in due course. I will notify those persons effected as further information becomes available.

I hope you all have a great week, and I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday.
