We had another successful ReStart a Heart Session supported by the British Heart Foundation last night organised by our Instructor Will.
A number of years ago, we were lucky enough to be gifted a set of Resussi Annes from the British Heart Foundation Community Trust, to help educate young children in CPR.

Since then, we have provided training to all members in CPR, basic first aid, AED use and rescue drills in excess of our normal training program. It is our belief that these valuable life skills should be taught to all, as it may not just be when youre diving that things go awry…
Last night, each member got the chance to experience CPR using the BHF’s amazing kit, were introduced to the use of an automatic external defribulator (as may be found in many public transport, shopping and sports centres). Had the opportunity to bandage up their friends with imaginary injuries and practiced in water towing skills.

We are well aware, that our members in the past have used these skills in both their private life and in diving to save the lives of their friends and family. So we think this is a brilliant event with a real basis in life skill development.

After the event, every instructor came to me and said how engaged each of their students were, and Im aware myself (having had bandages wrapped around me all morning from my own daughter), how much of an impact it has clearly had.
Whilst I hope no one ever has to use these skills. Im glad to know that we have ensured that our students have them just in case.
Well done all!
